This painting has been living in my head for years.  

Since I was a kid, I have always been amused and entertained by the concept of the Land of Misfit Toys from the classic Christmas special, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.  I find the story of those who are cast aside and ridiculed as familiar and the ultimate setting for a comeback story.  I was thinking about all the characters out there (both real and fictional) who fit the same storyline, and how cool it would be to pose these misunderstood individuals side by side.

In this case, I decided to merge the following characters:

The Cowboy who rides an ostrich. Andy Warhol, Oscar the Grouch, Picasso, the polka Dot Elephant, Frankenstein’s Monster, Lady Gaga, Frida Kahlo, Dumbo, Snuffleupagus, The squirt Gun that shoots Jelly, Salvador Dali, Wil-e-Coyote on his ACME rocket (Hiding to the left in the background), Eeyore (Hiding to the right in the background)

The idea of posing these characters in this way was meant to mimic the way Annie Leibovitz composed her Vanity Fair celebrity group composite photos.
