This painting was a 7 year project!  Yes, for over 7 years this project was worked on, set aside, and worked on again.  One can only paint so many dots before sanity is at risk!

This painting is very large, at 56” square, so it needs a large space to live.

The title comes from the accepted practice, which allowed Venetians to wear masks and enjoy the anonymity they provided (think drinking in bars, gambling,  or visiting houses of ill repute!) between St. Stephen’s Day (December 26th) and the end of the carnival, which was always midnight on Shrove Tuesday.
